When Is The Best Time To Come?
From May 15 - Oct 1 There's No Bad Time!
When it comes to discussing Homer, in genera, there’s really no bad time from May 15 – Oct 1. However, its possible to break the summer season into 4 main groups which are really determined by the salmon runs returning to the nearby rivers. The saltwater starts in May and doesn’t end until the snow starts to fall. From May until October, nearly every restaurant, tour operator, fishing charters, fly-in fishing company and more is usually open and ready for guests. Also, if you come up during that time, there is always plenty to see, warm days, and fish to catch.
Early Season
May 15 - June 10
Pros:
- Saltwater halibut fishing is excellent and improving
- No Crowds! Lower Cost!
- Warm, long days, especially June
- Fjords & Wildlife Are Excellent
- King Salmon fishing is excellent
- Halibut fishing is very good
- Bear Viewing Available on Beaches
- Hiking & Sight Seeing Are Excellent
- Incredibly long days

- No sockeye fishing yet

- The price of a rental car will shock you!
- You should book as early as possible!

Aug 21 - Oct 1
Pros:
- Saltwater halibut fishing is excellent and silver salmon are now entering the rivers
- No crowds, and prices are reasonable again
- Alaska in the fall is beautiful
- Honestly, shhh(!), this is our favorite time of year.
- Fjords & Wildlife Are Excellent
- Silver salmon is at it’s peak from Aug 20 – Oct 1
- Rainbow Trout fishing is the best it will be all year!
- Halibut fishing is excellent!
- Bear Viewing and Combo Fishing Trips are available and fishing is excellent!

- It does get cooler and rainier compared to June, July & Early August.
